Georgie & JoMo (aka George Newman and Joanne Morgan) are an electronic duo based out of St. John’s, NL. Drawing upon varied influences that include Portishead, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Nine Inch Nails, and the like, this musical married couple are forging a sound that is uniquely their own.

After years of playing together in various bands around the St. John’s area such as Japan Batteries, The Wolves, and The Reluctant Showmen, the couple longed to start a project in the vein of their less apparent influences. A project that would feature Joanne’s tremendous vocal talents, who had been the drummer for the aforementioned bands, and one that would challenge George’s composition and production skills. The Scope’s RPM challenge was the perfect catalyst to get this project rolling.

Their first RPM, Half-Life, was a haunting, jagged Georgie-composed electronic soundscape that provided the perfect counterpoint to Joanne’s emotional, soulful vocal delivery. The second RPM, titled Mixtape, carried on the same vein by blending equal parts TripHop, Post Rock, Synth Pop, and Industrial elements.

Georgie & JoMo played their first live show this past March 2012 as part of the Prototype series, an event to promote the best underground electronic music producers in the St. John’s area. Since their first performance they have performed at venues all over the city including the Levee, the Ship and the Brimstone. They also released a free 3 song ep entitled C0V3R5, as a tribute to some of their influences.
